Vinemont Christian Academy (VCA) is a private PK-12th grade school in Vinemont, Alabama, founded in 1975 as a ministry of Soul's Harbor Free Will Baptist Church.

Key Historical Milestones

• Founding (1973–1975): The school originated from a vision led by Rev. Dennis Reeves in 1973. After the church was established in 1974, VCA officially opened for its first academic year in the fall of 1975.

• Leadership Transitions: Rev. Reeves served as administrator for 20 years before passing leadership to Bro. Kenneth Terry. Following Terry's 38-year tenure, the position was handed over to Dr. Aaron Dawson.

• Curriculum & Accreditation: Since its inception, the academy has utilized the Accelerated Christian Education (A.C.E.) curriculum. It has frequently received "Model Status" from A.C.E., though it has historically declined state or governmental accreditation to maintain its specific religious curriculum standards.

• Expansion of Ministries:

  • 1976: Opened the Souls Harbor Daycare.

  • 2004/2006: Launched a homeschool ministry to provide academic assistance and training to parents.

  • 2026: Recently opened a new Media Center to enhance its digital and visual resources.

Educational Philosophy

The school was founded to provide a "Bible-centered" (KJV) education focusing on four areas: spiritual, academic, physical, and social development. Its standard of conduct maintains strict biblical lifestyle requirements for both students and their families.

Our mission

Our mission is to preach the kingdom of God to all we come in contact with. We do that by word of mouth, by printed materials such as tracts, and by Christian education in our K4-12th grade Christian school. We have been fulfilling our mission since 1975, and plan to continue until our King returns.

Founded in 1974

(1974-1994)

Souls Harbor Free Will Baptist Church began in 1974 with founding pastor Rev. Dennis Reeves. Pastor Reeves had a conviction and vision for a church with a Christian school ministry. The next year, 1975, Vinemont Christian Academy began. Shortly thereafter Souls Harbor Day Care was launched. In January of 2006, VCA home school ministry was added to the Christian Education program. Souls Harbor has served many families since that time. Many faithful, dedicated servants of the Lord have been involved in these ministries over these past 48 years.

Pastor Kenneth and Marie Terry (1985-2022)

Pastor Kenneth Terry and his wife Marie have served the Lord at Souls Harbor since 1985 and retired in September 2022. They spent 38 years of service to Jesus Christ here at Souls Harbor. The congregation of the church and ministries, thank them both!

Souls Harbor continues to minister to families and children in this God-ordained ministry. Souls Harbor is a special place doing a great work for God.
